The Tempest pulled up next to me, its docking port opening. I used my suit’s thrusters to propel myself inside. Gravity! I braced myself, landing on one knee to help absorb the blow of me dropping to the deck of my ship. I blindly reached behind me, hitting the switch to close the docking port with the ridge of my hand, just as I’d done on the other Corsair. I knew this ship. It was my home in the stars. You’d think it would be my apartment? Nah. Bounty Hunters look for me too much there.
I removed my helmet, and put my backpack into the suit locker. I placed my Star Kitten Armor in after that. It had served me well. I stored my weapon in the armory slot closest to the docking collar. It was my insurance in case I needed to repel anyone. I had several stashed throughout the ship. Good luck finding all of them. That doesn’t even include the knives. I checked my face in the mirror on the wall in the Hab deck. My liberty spikes were still down right now, drenched in sweat from my spacewalks.
With that short pause, I made my way to the cockpit through the sets of doors. There, Rhys was already exiting the pilot’s seat. “Good show! By the way, Rivera messaged me. He said someone tried to fence fifty cases of Distilled Spirits over at Grim Hex. I did have to wonder if that was our dumbass. Said we can find his destroyed Caterpillar on Daymar. Also said they had nothing to do with it. Gave us the coordinates. He also said that the goods are long gone, unfortunately.” “Damnit… Get it into the computer. I’ll take us there,” I said as I climbed into the pilot’s seat. I didn’t even wait to get everything where it was meant to be. I flipped us over into Quantum and began to turn the ship in the direction of Daymar. About halfway through the turn, the coordinates hit my navigation computer. Rhys and I worked like a well-oiled machine. It came from years of working together with my Dad. I activated the Quantum Drive, and away from the station we went. Three weeks wasted in a backwater mining hub at the edge of Crusader. Of course the product was long gone. Rothschild had to have found a buyer by now. If not at Grim Hex, his father would have likely helped him by now.
His father was the leader of a known crime syndicate here in Stanton. It’s the only reason I hadn’t killed him before. He’d been fucking with us every time we came through with a convoy. This time, he’d caught us with our pants down. My Corsair was usually the escort for the Grimlin Space Corps lone Caterpillar. If it was destroyed, I was going to be angry with someone. That’s thirteen million credits, they better hope it wasn’t a total loss. I’d be taking it out of their asses. One member of their pretentious ‘White Glove Syndicate’ at a time, if necessary.
